Gar
DuBois
( Hatmandu )
Gar has been designing and making hats since 1992. As Gar
explains on the Hatmandu website, "I fell in love with the
artistic possiblities and practicality of felt as a medium, and have
found that hat design allows for a wide range of expression. The
hats are primarily made from premium quality merino wool batts that
are felted by hand and then shaped using traditional hat maker's
blocks and other tools. The design materials vary, but are usually
silk, rayon or hand-dyed wool to create the accents. My primary
focus is on women's hats, though I make men's and children's hats as
well as felted vests and other types of clothing.

last few years, she has also been exploring nuno felting, focussing
on scarves and shawls. She is now working on expanding her
